Well, another year has come and gone. To say
was not the best year for Naiade & I is a bit of an understatement.
In midwinter, Naiade woke me up having a hard time breathing. I thought that it was a bad asthma attach and I called 911. They took her to the ER. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and spent 3 days in the hospital trying to the fluid out of her lungs. In the spring, her COPD got bad enough that she had to start sleeping with oxygen. In early summer, another breathing attack happened. Another 3 days in the hospital getting rid of the water. In August she woke me up in the middle of the night. She was really having a hard time breathing. I called 911. By the time that the EMTs arrived she had all but stopped breathing. By the time that I got to the hospital, she was in the ER on a ventilator. In less than 30 minutes they moved her to ICU where she remained for 6 days drugged up and unconscious on a ventilator. Six days passed then they removed the ventilator and moved her to a regular medical room, where she stayed for 3 days. From the medical room she was moved into the hospital rehabilitation wind. She spent almost 3 weeks there before being discharged to home with home healthcare for physical therapy and speack therapy. Home healthcare is how we spent the rest of the year.
The icing on the 2018 cake was this. You may recall that our little dog Mika severed her ALC in and then broke a rear leg in 2016. She spent the last half of that year pretty much in confinement as the injuries healed. Well, between Naiade's 2nd and 3rd hospital stay Mika severed the ACL in her other rear leg. It would require another surgery, 3 to 4 months of bascally living in a crate. Then she would still have a hard time getting around and some pretty bad arthritis pain. So, Naiade and I made the difficult decission to have her put down. Mika was a pain in the ass. But we really miss her.
One of my New Year resolutions is to keep this home page updated and periodically add new content. So, check back here once in awhile!
